Increase click-throughs by tacking the word “today” onto your headline

Add the word “today” to the end of an article’s headline to increase your click-through rate.

Marcus Taylor of added this single word to his headline so that it read, “Simple tips to reduce your website’s bounce rate today” and increased his CTR from 0.77% to 3.94%. As a test, he then reduced urgency by using the phrases “this week” or “this month” instead of “today” and saw his CTR immediately decline. Interestingly, using the word “now” instead of “today” also reduced CTR, but that seems to be dependent on context.
